Maria-Luise Bodirsky

For 35 years now, my concern as an artist has been with the human being in her environment, development, transformation – her metamorphoses.

My work is inspired by characters from early human history, Egyptian civilization, Greek mythology and the Old Testament as much as by modern literature.

I am interested in particular in figures which change their appearance due to inner or outer circumstances – which enter into petrifaction like Lot’s wife and Antigone, or free themselves from it like Nike or Phoenix.
